Mrs. Heather James

I graduated from UNA with a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing and received an Master's of Science in Nursing from UAH. I started my nursing career as a critical care nurse at ECM Hospital. I previously taught Health Science at Muscle Shoals Career Academy. I have been teaching for Florence High School for 6 years.

Career and Technical Student Organization

  • HOSA is a global student-led organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Department of Health and Human Services and several federal and state agencies. HOSA’s mission is to empower HOSA-Future Health Professionals to become leaders in the global health community, through education, collaboration, and experience. HOSA actively promotes career opportunities in the health industry and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people. HOSA’s goal is to encourage all health science instructors and students to affiliate and be actively involved in the HSE-HOSA Partnership.(hosa.org)

    Activities:

    • HOSA hosts a blood drive with Life South in the fall of the school year.

    • HOSA students participate with The Focus Program.

    • HOSA students teach elementary students using "TAR WARS" which promotes no smoking and tobacco products.

    • Field Trips - HIV/AIDS Summit in Huntsville, AL in the Fall and Shocco Springs, AL in the Spring.

    Program Description:

    Health Science is for students who have or may have an interest in health care. Students who wish to pursue a career in one of the many health care careers will be interested in Health Science. They will gain knowledge that will prepare them for entry-level jobs in the health care field. 

    Many career areas offer internships, such as:

    • McClanahan Dental Office

    • Bone and Joint Office and Rehab Facility

    • Gentivia Hospice

    • Milner Rushing Drug
