Welcome to Falcon Cross Country!
Cross Country is a long distance running sport. We participate in meets that are run outside, along trails, across golf courses, through woods, and on roads. It is not only a challenge of who can run fastest, but also who can run longest and master the intense terrain of dirt, grass, mud, and gravel, through fields, across creeks, over hills, and in all types of weather including rain, snow, sleet, and intense 100 degree days. Our JV (junior varsity) team runs either a 2 mile course or a 2.1 mile course. Our Varsity team runs a 5k course, 3.1 miles. The Florence Falcons Cross Country team consists of approximately 40 student-athletes from 7th grade to 12th grade.
Our varsity teams have earned their way to numerous state championships and beyond. Beginning in 2014, both men’s and women’s teams have placed in the ASHAA Sectional Meet which has given them the opportunity to compete in the AHSAA State Meet. Every year we have had multiple runners accomplish a top ten spot at the State Meet. In 2016, our women’s team won the Red State Map trophy. In 2017, both teams won the Sectional Meet and had the overall female State Meet winner. In 2018, we competed as a 7A team to place in the 7A AHSAA Sectional Meet. Again, both teams went on to compete in the AHSAA State Meet. In 2017 and 2018, our team had multiple athletes go on to compete at the next level, the South Regionals in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The Florence Falcons Cross Country team has had an “Athlete of the Year” nominee by The Times Daily in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018. Our program has developed many collegiate athletes who have had multiple scholarship offers.
