  • Senior Students and Parents, 
    It's hard to believe that Graduation is almost here, but it is only 7 short weeks away. The countdown is on! As we near the month of May and the many events that come with it, I want to share some very important information with you all. READ THIS MESSAGE IN ITS ENTIREITY. Please let me know if you have any questions about the information listed below or anything not covered in this message.     Fees: The preferred deadline for all fees to be paid by April 19, 2024. Fees can be paid in the FHS Bookkeeping office. This includes Cap & Gown fees. The FINAL deadline for fees to be paid is May 1, 2024. 
    Cap & Gown Pickup:  We will begin distributing students' caps & gowns on Monday, April 29 during 4th and 5th periods. In order to pick up their cap and gown, students must meet ALL of the following requirements: 
    • Passing Grades in ALL courses
    • ALL APEX courses completed
    • Passed the Civics Test
    • Completed FAFSA or FAFSA Waiver
    • Completed Scholarship
    • Completed all seat time
    • ALL fees paid: NOTE: Students whose fees are paid in full by April 19 will be able to pick up their cap and gown on April 29/30. Students who do not pay fees until after April 19 will be able to pick theirs up on May 3. 
    Stoles: Students who qualify for honor stoles will be able to purchase those when they pick up their cap and gown. Stoles will cost $25 each. If students have questions about which stoles they qualify for, please contact the following people: 
    • Honors, AP, First 30, Career Tech, or associate degree- Mrs. Young
    • Fine Arts- Jerry Foster
    • Athletic- Byron Graham
    Graduation Dress Code: There is a dress code for graduation. Here is what the students are expected to wear at the ceremony on 5/24/24:
    • Option One - Khaki or dark colored dress pants (no cargo pockets), white button-down shirt with collar, appropriate dress tie, black or brown dress shoes (no flipflops or tennis shoes)
    • Option Two - Dress with modest neckline; hem line should not show beneath hem of gown, black or brown dress shoes (no flipflops or tennis shoes)
    • Jewelry for all students should be modest.
    • Decorated Graduation Caps are NOT ALLOWED.
    • **If you need assistance with finding appropriate dress options for Graduation, talk to Mrs. Young ASAP. Do not wait until the week of the ceremony to ask for assistance.
    Graduation Practice: Graduation Practice will begin promptly at 6:00 pm on Thursday, May 23. The location will be at the FMS Auditorium unless the decision is made to move to our indoor ceremony location.  Seniors are required to wear their cap/gown at practice and will not participate in the ceremony on Friday unless they are able to practice in the cap/gown. Students should also wear the shoes that they have planned to wear for the ceremony at practice. 
    Final Benchmark Exemption: Information taken from the Florence City Schools Parent-Student Handbook, pg. 60.
    • Students in grade 12 who attain silver level or higher (at least a 4 on all test sections), on the WorkKeys test, will be exempt from all 4th nine weeks final benchmark tests.
    • Students in grades 7-12 that have a final yearly average of an “A” in any subject will be exempt from that subject’s 4th nine weeks final benchmark test.
    • Students are not required to take the final benchmark in a course if they take the Advanced Placement test for that course.
    Scholarship Information: This year's senior class has already been awarded incredible amounts of scholarship money and there will be more to come. Please have your child complete the form linked here to submit the information regarding scholarship offers they have received. Students will also receive this form in their school email. The form should be completed for EACH scholarship OFFER they have received. The deadline to submit this form is May 2.

    • October 4: Students can order Balfour products in person during lunch.
    • October 16-20: Free College Application Week
    • October 24: ACT WorkKeys Testing for all seniors
    • December 1st: First round of priority deadlines for in-state scholarship applications
    • December 2023: FAFSA Opens
    • January 10: Panoramic Picture, 1 PM
    • February 22: Spring FAFSA help night, 6 PM, Commons***
    • May 1: Senior Fees Due
    • May 6: Senior Awards Night
    • May 9: Academic Signing Day/Elementary Walkthroughs***
    • May 23: Graduation Practice, 6 PM Braly Stadium
