A native of South Carolina, Kimberly Maternik-Piret attended the SC Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities during high school. In college she studied with Dr. Nancy Bargerstock at Appalachian State University, graduating with a degree in violin performance, and later went on to teacher train in the Alexander Technique at Chesapeake Bay Alexander Studies in Greensboro, North Carolina. Her teaching style is influenced by the Alexander Technique and mind-body connection as well as the Suzuki method. She also spent 8 years playing in the Johnson City Symphony Orchestra in Tennessee as well as the Paramount Chamber Players. Kimberly enjoys teaching young children to play the violin and enjoys going through the rigors of correct violin set-up, since the relationship of physical poise has a direct influence on sound quality. Hobbies include learning about and training Labrador retrievers, cooking, and spending time with her family.
