Construction underway for renovations to Braly Stadium

FLORENCE, Ala. — Renovation work is well underway at Braly Stadium as Florence City Schools moves forward with plans to enhance the city landmark that has stood since 1949.

Florence City Schools unveiled its renderings of the $9 million renovations at a ceremony in early May.

“If you’re from this community, Braly Stadium is a fixture here,” Superintendent Dr. Jimmy Shaw said. “Whether it was the days of glory of Coffee High School or Bradshaw High School, whether it was UNA and their three championships of Division II, this place has been a cornerstone of who our community is and represents a lot about our beliefs and our culture.”

From football games to graduation ceremonies and community events, many people throughout the Shoals area have fond memories of experiences at Braly, including Coach Buddy Moore. The former UNA football player served as head football coach at Coffee High School for 12 years and nine years as the principal.

“I played four years in UNA, and we played all our home games here, and it was just a really great place to play,” Coach Moore said. “In my era, if you played at Braly Stadium, you were playing in the jewel of stadiums in Alabama.”

Athletic Director Byron Graham explained that this new project will allow that jewel to shine even brighter.

“The new facility renovation there will be almost 15,000 square feet—will provide the following for our football and FMS student athletes: a game day locker room for varsity and JV and freshman, separate seventh and eighth grade football locker rooms, coaches offices, meeting rooms for all teams, a nutrition room, an athletic trainer room, boys and girls P.E. dressing rooms, and the biggest attraction will be the indoor strength conditioning weight room with multiple racks for younger athletes."

Graham added that the interior floor of the weight room will be decorated with turf and a falcon head logo, along with a wall of windows, which will be visible to fans from inside the stadium. The new building will house a dedicated entrance into Braly Stadium, where fans will purchase tickets. There will also be 150 parking spaces added.

The renovation project is one of many ways Florence City Schools is embracing being one of the best districts in Alabama.
