FLORENCE, Ala. — In 2024 the Florence High School faculty began recognizing and highlighting student growth through the Falcon Honor Hub. The Falcon Honor Hub’s mission is to create a culture where students and teachers alike can learn to collaborate and encourage innovation so they can strive to be the best they can. This year, the Honor Hub continues that mission by highlighting a student and teacher of the month.

“We want to nominate students that show good character in class, in the hallways, in school,” Florence High School Career Coach Callie Thomas said. “It's not always about grades or athletics, just somebody that is a good all-around person.”

For the new awards, Thomas said she wanted to structure the nomination process where everyone could provide input.

“We thought it would be nice to have the students involved, because they're in their classroom eight periods a day, so we just wanted students to nominate teachers that make them feel special and go above and beyond.” Thomas said. “We have a Google form that I send out to all the teachers, and they complete it, then the students the same way, have a Google form that they fill out.”

Thomas said more than 200 students nominated teachers. Dr. Joshua Cole received the most votes and was selected as the Teacher of the Month for August.

“We plan to do a teacher and a student every month during the school year, and there's several students that they'll pick from each grade,” Thomas said.

Student nominees for August were sophomores Damoni Chandler and Battle Cartwright, juniors Darren Roberson and Kalei McCroskey, and senior Tre Ingram. Each student was recognized for their character, work ethic, and positive contributions to the school community. From academic achievement and leadership to compassion, reliability and personal growth, the nominees reflect the values and expectations of Florence City Schools and the Falcon Way.
