Florence FFA brings home banner in every event at 98th state convention

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The Florence FFA Chapters had an outstanding week at the 98th Alabama FFA State Convention, bringing home a banner in every contest entered and celebrating numerous individual and chapter accomplishments.

The week began on Tuesday as members competed in Career and Leadership Development Events at Southern Union State Community College in Opelika. Following the contests, members traveled to Montgomery for the state convention.

While most of the week was spent attending convention sessions, members also enjoyed a visit to the Montgomery Zoo, where several students had the opportunity to feed the capybaras. During the visit, students learned from zoo staff that many employees hold degrees in agriculture, highlighting the diverse career opportunities available within the agricultural industry.

During the Opening Session, senior Angel Tran was recognized for her service as the 2025–2026 North District FFA Treasurer.

At the Second General Session, senior Amira McCoy was recognized as a recipient of a $1,000 scholarship from the National FFA Organization.

The Third General Session brought several major accomplishments for Florence FFA members. Hayden Ball was named the State Champion in Safe Tractor Driving, earning a 1st Place State Banner. The Horse Evaluation Team of Hattie Carter, Ellie Owens, Haley Stutts, and Lynlee Burton earned a 3rd Place State Banner, with Hattie Carter also being named the Highest Individual Scorer in the contest.

During the Fourth General Session, Hayden Ball, Layla Bryan, and Braxton Lovelace were awarded the State FFA Degree, one of the highest honors bestowed by the Alabama FFA Association.

At the Fifth General Session, Layla Bryan earned a 4th Place Banner in Employability Skills. The Florence Middle School FFA Chapter earned a 3rd Place State Banner in Quiz Bowl. Team members included Deakin Shimakonis, Wesley Ryan, Caleb Johnson, Bella Rae Howell, Novah-Leah Wells, Avonlea Bratcher, and Axel Garcia.

In addition, Hattie Carter earned a 3rd Place State Proficiency Award in Equine Science: Placement.

The week concluded with both Florence FFA chapters being recognized through the National Chapter Award Program. The Florence FFA Chapter earned a Bronze National Chapter Award, while the Florence Middle School FFA Chapter earned a Silver National Chapter Award, recognizing the chapters’ outstanding accomplishments and impact throughout the year.
