Florence FFA delivers strong showing at North District Eliminations

HANCEVILLE, Ala. — The Florence FFA Chapters had a fantastic day at the North District Eliminations at Wallace State Community College on Friday.

The Florence FFA Chapter competed in six contests.

  • Employability Skills Finalist
    • Layla Bryan (will compete at the State Eliminations on June 9 in Opelika)
  • Ag Mechanics – 10th place out of 29 teams
    • Cason Williams (10th highest individual score out of 105 students)
    • Gatlin Dison
    • Braxton Lovelace
    • Nicholas Henry
  • Horse Evaluation – 2nd place out of 50 teams
    • Hattie Carter (highest individual scorer out of 140 students)
    • Evelyn Owens
    • Haley Stutts

Horse evaluation will compete at the State Eliminations on May 29 in Auburn, AL.

  • Aquaculture – 5th place out of 23 teams
    • Tess Stone
    • Angel Tran
    • Lynlee Burton
    • Gianna Pham (8th highest individual scorer out of 70 students)
  • Tractor Driving – 2nd place
    • Hayden Ball (will compete at the State Eliminations on June 9 in Opelika)
  • Extemporaneous Speaking – 7th place
    • Amira McCoy

We also had the opportunity to watch Florence FFA Member Angel Tran finish out her year as the 2025-2026 North District FFA Treasurer. From her year of service, she has received a Leadership Scholarship from Wallace State.

The Florence Middle School FFA Chapter competed in two contests and received the official 1st Place Banner for the Discovery Welding Contest.

Our quiz bowl placed 1st in the written portion and 2nd overall. Although the highest individual score is not recognized for Quiz Bowl, Deakin Shimakonis tied for the 1st-highest score on the written portion. Quiz Bowl will compete at the State Eliminations on June 9 in Opelika.

  • Ag Mechanics – 8th place out of 29 teams

The middle school Discovery Welding contest is composed of aspects of the 7th-12th-grade Ag Mechanics contest. Our team competed in Ag Mechanics for the experience, and no formal training beyond what they studied for welding. They placed in the top 10 of the contest, with Axel Garcia scoring 16th place out of 105 students.

We cannot be prouder of these students and all of their hard work!
