FLORENCE, Ala. — Florence City Schools and Lockheed Martin will host a program kick-off event on Friday, January 23, to highlight the Manufacturing Basic Skills Plus (MBS+) pre-apprenticeship partnership. The event is scheduled from 8 to 9 a.m. at 200 Career Drive in Florence, at the Lauderdale County Agricultural Events Center.

MBS+ is a pre-apprenticeship program designed for high school seniors and provides exposure to the electronics manufacturing field. The program is a partnership between Florence City Schools and Lockheed Martin and is integrated into the existing industrial maintenance curriculum.

The curriculum includes instruction in basic engineering drawings, shop math, torque, electrostatic discharge, point-to-point wiring, electrical fundamentals, tool familiarization, and Alabama Ready to Work certification.

Students who complete the MBS+ program are guaranteed interviews for Lockheed Martin's Advanced Manufacturing Technician Apprenticeship Program (AMTAP).

AMTAP is a U.S. Department of Labor-registered apprenticeship that trains candidates in skills needed to build space electronics and prepares participants for careers in space manufacturing. During the initial training period, apprentices are paid and receive company benefits.

Program graduates earn nationally recognized certifications and may be eligible for full-time employment with Lockheed Martin. Benefits include health care coverage, matching 401(k) plans, professional development opportunities, tuition reimbursement, family leave and paid time off.

More information about AMTAP is available here.
