FLORENCE, Ala. — The Florence Education Foundation (FEF) has devised a new and creative way to help raise money for Florence City Schools classrooms, and one "lucky duck" will get to waddle away with $5,000 of their own.

The Lucky Duck Dive splashes into action this Saturday, May 3, at noon at the Royal Avenue Recreation Center pool.

To participate in the drawing, you can adopt a rubber duck for $10 and are then assigned a number. Each number is placed on the bottom of a corresponding duck. All rubber ducks will be thrown into the Royal Avenue Pool on May 3. One lucky duck will be drawn from the pool, and whoever adopts that duck will be awarded $5,000.

"We just thought that this would be something new to try," FEF Executive Director Miranda Haddock said. "We fill grants for teachers, and this year, we were able to fill 96 grants totaling over $51,000, but we can't do that without donors, fundraisers, and events that we hold, so we're always trying to think of new ways to build this foundation and get more money to the teachers."

There's no limit to the number of rubber ducks you can adopt—so the more you adopt, the greater your chances are of winning. If you can't attend the event, you can watch live on florencek12.org/live. If you need to adopt a duck, you still have until noon on Friday, May 2. For more details and to adopt a duck, click here.
