Superintendent Bill Hopkins to release 'Falcons Connect' monthly board meeting update
FLORENCE, Ala. — Florence City Schools Superintendent Bill W. Hopkins Jr. said he is launching a monthly video series to recap Board of Education meetings.
The video series is titled "Falcons Connect," matching his theme for the 2026–2027 school year. As the name suggests, the videos aim to connect with the Florence community by sharing important updates and celebrations related to students, staff, and board-approved items.
"My goal is simple: to keep you informed, keep you connected, and make sure you know what's happening in your school system," Hopkins said. "Each time we do this, I'll highlight three things. First, what we approved. I'll share a few of the most important decisions made by our board and explain what they mean for our students, staff, and families."
The second part of the monthly video will highlight what the community should know.
"There's a lot happening across Florence City Schools—important dates, upcoming events, new initiatives, and announcements," Hopkins said. "I want to make sure you have that information."
Lastly, Hopkins will address who and what the district is celebrating.
"There is so much to celebrate in Florence City Schools, like our special education director Dr. Ashley Bowling being selected as affiliate president for the Alabama Association of Middle School Principals, and Dr. Corey Behel being selected as a nominee for Alabama CTE Administrator of the Year," Hopkins said. "Hibbett student Yate Hirbo was named AAU Junior Olympic Champion!"
Hopkins said "Falcons Connect" is more than a theme for the school year; it's how he wants the district to operate with students, families, staff, and the community.
Regularly scheduled Florence City Board of Education meetings occur on the second Tuesday of each month at 5 p.m. at 541 Riverview Drive. The Falcons Connect Board Meeting Update will be released the following day on the district's Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube accounts.
