Swimming Action!

About the Team

  • The Florence Swim Team consists of Florence Middle School, Florence Freshman Center, and Florence High School. Athletes from grades 7th through 12th participate on the team together to create a middle school, JV and Varsity swim team. Our Season begins in August and ends in December with tryouts typically in April or May.

Each year since the team’s beginning, swimmers have participated in Sectionals and State swim meets. We have had several top 16 finishes and some top 8 finishes at state. Our swimmers have received several scholarship offers for swimming and academics. We have had athletes sign with Birmingham Southern and Bethel University.

The swim team is a part of the North Alabama High School Swim League (NAHSSL). We swim against High Schools in Boaz, Cullman, Huntsville, Madison, Decatur, Athens’s, and other cities in North Alabama. We compete in 6-8 swim meets every season plus Sectionals and State.

Our practices consist of dry-land, distance swims, sprints, drills, and base work. Swimmers typically swim 3,000-4,000 yards at practice, and they involve high-intensity workouts. We use bucket systems as well as 5-gallon buckets for training. We also use a variety of gear to help with different skills, drills, and strokes. Most athletes also participate in weight training during the school day through strength and conditioning classes. We practice at the YMCA of the Shoals five days a week.
