Welcome to CTE

  • Greetings Florence Family,

I am pleased to welcome you to Florence City Schools Career and Technical Education. We believe our students are fortunate to attend schools where relevant, rigorous, and skill-based learning is delivered through high-quality Career and Technical Education courses and programs. It is the mission of Florence City Schools Career and Technical Education department to complement the academic curriculum for students in our school system.

Florence City Schools provides a variety of Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs to middle and high school students. CTE coursework engages students in experiential and dynamic learning that allows them to develop and master the technical, academic, and interpersonal skills needed for success in today’s ever-changing job market. The CTE programs of study offered in Florence City Schools involve multi-year sequences of courses that integrate core academic knowledge with technical and occupational knowledge to provide students with a pathway to post-secondary education and careers.

It is not our practice to write concrete career paths for students at a young age. However, it is our desire to assist students in narrowing areas of student to align with their particular skills and aspirations. We achieve this through career guidance meetings with our career coach, as well as through frequent career and skills interest inventories and competency testing.

Our instructional staff have professional experience in the industry sectors and subjects they teach and use 21st century, industry-standard tools and technology in their classrooms. Our instructors have a passion for working with students to develop skills in order to reach their potential and identify their own career path. Our course sequencing has been developed as a response to student interest, identified industry and workforce development demands, as well as collaboration with business advisory committee members and university partners.

The Florence City CTE program areas include the following: 12 for Life, Launch, Career Technologies, Agricultural Education, Business, Finance and Marketing, Health Sciences, Family and Consumer Sciences, Culinary Arts, Fashion, Cosmetology, T.V. Production, Graphic Arts, Welding Technology, Information Technology, Engineering, and Robotics.

Please explore our website to learn more about our classes, pathways, and programs. If we can assist you in learning about a particular program, career guidance, or leadership opportunities, please contact us at (256) 768 - 2211.

    Sincerely,

    Layne Rinks
