Florence FFA chapters awarded at Lauderdale County FFA Land Evaluation contest

LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Ala. — The Florence FFA chapter won big on Thursday at the Lauderdale County FFA Land Evaluation contest, earning $1,450 in awards.

The USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service and the Lauderdale County Soil Conservation Service hosted the event. FFA sponsor and agriscience teacher Shelby Atwood said the event was only possible with the contributions of both organizations.

Both the Florence Middle School and Florence High School FFA chapters received checks for their efforts at Thursday’s contest. Florence High won first place overall, and Florence Middle won second place overall.

The top six highest-scoring individuals received personal checks to take home. First place went to Kyna Underwood. Second place was Angel Tran, third place was Tess Stone, fourth place was David Price, fifth place was Amira McCoy, and sixth place was Layla Bryan.

Both chapters will move on to compete at the North District FFA Land Evaluation competition on November 14 in Cullman County.
