Florence City Schools welcomes new assistant superintendent

Dr. Jimmy Shaw and Mrs. Khristie Goodwin

FLORENCE, Ala. — Tuesday evening at the August meeting, the Florence City Board of Education voted to approve hiring Mrs. Khristie Goodwin as the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction and Special Education. Goodwin brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to fostering educational excellence and equity.

Goodwin has dedicated more than 31 years to education, serving in various capacities as a teacher, coach, school psychometrician, and administrator. Most of her career was spent within the Oxford City Schools district, where she served 15 years as the Curriculum, Instruction, and Special Education Administrator. After retiring in 2022, Goodwin continued her work across the state, supporting districts, including Florence City Schools. Her passion aligns with the very mission of FCS, empowering students to explore, create, challenge, innovate, and lead.

“Mrs. Khristie Goodwin is coming to us with a wealth of experience from Oxford City Schools. She has served as both an Assistant Superintendent and Special Education Coordinator in a district that is the most similar to Florence City Schools in the state,” Superintendent Dr. Jimmy Shaw said. “She is an advocate for public education. She is a champion for student success. We are excited to have her join the team.”

Throughout her career, Goodwin was committed to the personal and professional growth of all educators within her district, a commitment she now shares with FCS. She believes that the greatest resources we have in education are the people and that serving, supporting, and developing staff is critical for the success of the schools. Her extensive expertise and commitment to high-quality learning experiences will be invaluable as the district works together to expand opportunities for all students.
