FCS celebrates Homecoming 2024 with week of events
FLORENCE, Ala. — Florence High School’s 2024 homecoming week is underway with plenty of fun-filled activities. This homecoming is special as it celebrates the 20th anniversary of merging Bradshaw and Coffee high schools as Florence High School.
Traditionally, each day during homecoming week has its own theme, giving students and staff the chance to wear a corresponding outfit. Friday’s homecoming game will be against the Austin High School Black Bears from Decatur. Playing off Austin’s black bear mascot, day one’s theme was “Hunt the Black Bears,” calling for camouflage. Tuesday’s theme is “Country or Country Club,” calling for a blend of southern preppy and casual collegiate fashion. Wednesday’s theme is Iconic Duo—wear two things or dress as two people that go together. With Thursday being the day of the homecoming parade, a blue-filled spirit day was the unanimous choice. Friday celebrates the overall homecoming theme, FalConstruction: Building on 20 Years of Excellence—wear hard hats and safety vests.
The band, football team, and cheerleaders will have a busy Thursday as FHS plans to bring the Falcon spirit to all the Florence elementary schools and the W.C. Handy Early Childhood Development Center. Thursday will begin with a parade for the youngest Falcons at W.C. Handy, followed by pep rallies at Forest Hills, Harlan, Weeden, and Hibbett.
The homecoming parade rolls Thursday at 7 p.m. in downtown Florence. Floats will line up on Pine Street from Flowers Hall to Norton Auditorium. The parade will turn left onto Irvine Avenue and right onto Court Street. The parade will continue south on Court Street, then turn left onto Tennessee Street. After a final left turn onto Seminary Street, the parade will end at Wilson Park with a community pep rally.
Friday’s homecoming game against Austin will kick off at 7 p.m. at Braly Stadium. For home game parking procedures, view this instructional video. Tickets for the game can be purchased here.
To close out the week, Florence High School will host a homecoming semi-formal for students on Saturday, September 14.
