FCS celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month

FLORENCE, Ala. —  September 15 through October 15 is when Hispanic Heritage Month is held nationwide. Many celebrations and events are held in Florence City Schools throughout this period to celebrate our students' diversity.

At Weeden Elementary, a huge celebration occurs every year where guest speakers and other collaborations showcase different aspects of various Hispanic cultures.

"This is an event we look forward to every year; we love celebrating the diversity of our students," Principal Daphnae Hogan said. "We want them to know that it is important to us that when they are in our country learning our ways, we want to learn their traditions as well."

On Tuesday, October 1, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Weeden will hold its Family Heritage Night, where authentic foods will be made, and there will be a variety of different activities for families to take part in to learn more about all of the different cultural traditions that there are.
