Attendees at Shoals Salsa Showdown

FLORENCE, Ala. — The seventh annual Shoals Salsa Showdown was one for the books. The Florence Education Foundation raised nearly $25,000 through community support for Florence City Schools classrooms.

On Saturday, November 2, hundreds gathered in and around Singin' River Brewing for the festivities. Attendees enjoyed live music, games, and a wide selection of salsas and queso from participating restaurants across Florence.

The restaurants competed in categories including Best Traditional Salsa, Most Creative Salsa, Best Queso, Most Festive Booth, and Overall Winner. Here's a list of this year's winners:

  • Best Traditional Salsa- Odette
  • Most Creative Salsa - Florence Exchange Club
  • Best Queso - Mugshots
  • Most Festive Booth - Freckle Face Salsa
  • Overall Winner - Hugo's

The money raised from the event will be used to fund grants that FCS teachers have applied for to use in their classrooms to amplify their impact on student educational experiences. The next large-scale fundraising effort will be Putting "Fore" the Falcons in the spring semester.
