FHS Peer Helpers launching Food Drive benefitting Sidney's Safe Foundation

FLORENCE, Ala. — For many families in the state of Alabama, the Iron Bowl can signify a house divided, but Florence High School students are taking advantage of the cross-state rivalry to help those in need.

As part of Florence High School's 12 Days of Giving, Peer Helpers are holding a food drive from November 18 to November 22, benefiting the Sidney’s Safe Foundation. Sidney’s Safe offers assistance to victims of domestic violence, addiction, mental illness, poverty, and food insecurity.

Students are asked to bring nonperishable foods to provide holiday dinners for families, specifically boxed dressing, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, marshmallows, and candied yams.

In the spirit of the Alabama-Auburn matchup, students can place their donations inside two boxes in the FHS commons marked for the team they project to win.

Donation boxes are also inside Jennifer Butler’s classroom (Room 156). For more information, Mrs. Butler can be contacted at jcbutler@florencek12.org.
