Two FHS seniors commit to colleges Wednesday afternoon
FLORENCE, Ala. — Florence High School hosted a signing ceremony Wednesday afternoon for two seniors taking the next steps in their academic and athletic journeys.
First to sign was Ella Kate McCreless, who committed to the University of North Alabama for cheer. She said she looks forward to beginning her weekend traditions with her new teammates. "I am excited to go to the next level with cheer, "she said. "I am ready for Saturday game days with football with the UNA Lions and the overall traditional competition."
Next up to the table was cross country and track standout Caleb Price, who committed to the United States Naval Academy. For Price, his next steps reflect not only his academics and athleticism but also his service to the nation.
"I have always wanted to go into the Navy," Price said. "My grandfather is the one that inspired me to shoot for the Navy and want to be a part of it. He would always tell me his sea stories and he made it sound like it was the best part of his life, and that was what was so inspiring about it."
Price added that as he got older, the Naval Academy caught his attention, and his progress in running caught the attention of recruiters from that very school.
"It was truly God opening a door and showing me the right way to go," Price said. "I fully expect it to be challenging mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually."
