What an awesome day for running! Our Florence Cross Country team took on many competitors yesterday at the Scottsboro Invitational. It was a beautiful, cool morning for our races. We started out with our JV girls who embraced the morning with vigor!
Next, our JV boys showed out with incredible performances by all. 9th grader Ben Hillis and 8th grader Riley Bozeman were both in the top 20 out of 107 runners. Jordan James showed outstanding character by helping up another team's runner and helping him to the finish line. This is true sportsmanship!
Our Varsity girls had 2 runners in the top ten out of 135 runners. Mary Claire Ridgeway came back strong with a 3rd place overall finish. Ellie VonHerrmann brought home the 9th place with a new PR of 20:27! .Bella Rhodes followed not far behind with a 22nd place finish. Lydia Galloway ran up with Varsity to claim a spot on the Georgia top ten. We have a new young lady on the team, Michi Valsecchi from Italy who joined us yesterday to complete the team.
Our Varsity boys picked other teams off one by one, bringing home the 2nd place overall win! Led by Trey Hurt who came in 10th place overall and David Rubolin who came in 19th, our boys were unstoppable! Reed Trapp, Grayson Abernathy, and MJ Dickerscheid all lowered their personal best times.
